Clipboard and Focus

Create and Apply write scripts natively in FileMaker. They do not use the clipboard, and Script Workspace does not need to be in front. This page covers the actions you still copy and paste yourself: Copy XML and Paste XML in Script Workspace, Copy for scripts and layout objects, and the Klai HookSet and custom function copy.

Copy or paste fails

Section titled “Copy or paste fails”
  • Symptoms: Failed to grab selection or Failed to prepare clipboard.
  • Cause: Script Workspace lost focus, or FileMaker did not respond to the copy request.
  • Fix:
    1. Click a script step in Script Workspace so that it has focus.
    2. Press Cmd+C once yourself.
    3. Return to Genie and try again.

Accessibility permission

Section titled “Accessibility permission”
  • Symptoms: Enable Accessibility for Genie or Accessibility not enabled.
  • Cause: macOS needs your permission before Genie can interact with FileMaker.
  • Fix:
    1. Open macOS System Settings.
    2. Go to Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
    3. Turn on the toggle for FileMaker, or for the app that hosts Genie.
    4. If it is already on, turn it off and on again.
