Clipboard and Focus
If Genie fails to read or write data to the FileMaker Script Workspace, it is usually due to a loss of window focus or missing system-level permissions.
Copy or Paste Timeout
Section titled “Copy or Paste Timeout”- Symptoms:
Failed to add selection, legacy/nativeFailed to grab selection, orFailed to prepare clipboard. - Cause: Focus was lost in Script Workspace, or FileMaker is not responding to the programmatic clipboard request.
- Fix:
- Click directly on a script step in Script Workspace to ensure it is the active focus.
- Press
Cmd+Cmanually on your keyboard. - Return to Genie and retry the action. This manual priming often restores the connection.
No Script Workspace Detected
Section titled “No Script Workspace Detected”- Symptoms:
No Script Workspace window detected. - Cause: Script Workspace is closed or hidden behind other FileMaker windows.
- Fix: Open Script Workspace in FileMaker (
Scripts > Script Workspace...) and ensure it is front-most before using Add Selection, Add Scripts, Clear Context, or Apply Code in Genie.
Accessibility Issues
Section titled “Accessibility Issues”- Symptoms:
Enable Accessibility for GenieorAccessibility not enabled. - Cause: macOS requires explicit permission for Genie to interact with other applications like FileMaker.
- Fix:
- Open macOS System Settings.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
- Ensure the toggle for FileMaker, or the Genie host app, is turned on.
- If it is already on, try toggling it off and back on again.
