Who is Genie for?
Section titled “Who is Genie for?”Genie is built for FileMaker developers and teams who want AI help inside FileMaker: scripts, calculations, layouts, metadata, queries, data and schema work, and handoffs to external agents.
Is Genie just another AI assistant for FileMaker?
Section titled “Is Genie just another AI assistant for FileMaker?”No. Genie includes chat, but it works inside FileMaker: docked panels in Script Workspace and Layout mode, Calculation Quick AI, answers based on your file’s real structure, read-only queries and data changes, Local MCP for external agents, Workbench, and a confirmation before changes.
Do I need a licence key and provider credentials?
Section titled “Do I need a licence key and provider credentials?”You need a working AI provider to send requests, but you do not need a Genie licence key to use the free version. A paid plan unlocks script writing, executable data changes, layout creation and editing, QuickCode, Auto apply, external MCP coding and execution, and Workbench actions.

How do I change the number of users or cancel?
Section titled “How do I change the number of users or cancel?”Open Settings > General in Genie and choose Manage subscription, or use the customer portal. Sign in with your purchase email to change users, switch between monthly and yearly, update your card, download invoices, or cancel. See Manage Your Subscription.
Can I handle different tasks in the same chat?
Section titled “Can I handle different tasks in the same chat?”Genie has one chat for questions, scripts, calculations, data, layouts, and Web Viewers. Describe the result you want. The agent chooses the tools and workflow, reads the relevant FileMaker context, and answers or prepares a result for review. Continue in the same conversation as the task develops.

Can Genie change my file without review?
Section titled “Can Genie change my file without review?”Not by default. Questions and read-only queries do not change FileMaker. For scripts, layouts, schema, and data, Genie shows the change and waits for your confirmation. Data changes show the exact SQL and values before they run.
If you turn on Auto apply in Settings, Genie applies those changes without a confirmation for each one. Access, file, and Privacy checks still apply, and running an existing script always asks first. Auto apply changes are listed in Workbench › Submitted. Edits to existing scripts and relationships can be undone there; data changes and newly created items cannot.
How do I give Genie script context?
Section titled “How do I give Genie script context?”Name the target script in your request, or select relevant references in Metadata Explorer. Genie reads exact script content when needed.

Can I use my Claude or ChatGPT plan instead of an API key?
Section titled “Can I use my Claude or ChatGPT plan instead of an API key?”On macOS, yes. Genie 3.3 can run its Agent through your own Claude Code or Codex, on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan, with no API key. Choose Claude Code or Codex in the composer’s model menu. Plan limits and the publishers’ terms apply, and Genie does not control them. Genie’s own Agent with your API keys is unchanged.
Can Claude Code or Codex change my file?
Section titled “Can Claude Code or Codex change my file?”By default, only with your decision. They reach FileMaker only through Genie’s tools, with no shell, file or web access. A change they propose appears as a card with Apply, Review and Copy, and nothing changes until you apply it. If you turn on Auto apply, they apply supported changes directly, like Genie’s own Agent, but without Genie’s extra check of the change against what you asked. Keep Auto apply off to review every change. Making changes still needs a paid Genie plan.
What is Local MCP Bridge for?
Section titled “What is Local MCP Bridge for?”Trusted external MCP clients on the same computer can read your FileMaker context for free. A paid plan unlocks staging, Workbench actions, script runs, and evaluation. Layout staging is macOS only.
Without Auto apply, anything an external client stages goes to Workbench for your review. With Auto apply on, an explicit execute from the client runs directly. The bridge exposes eight FileMaker tools plus the optional report_issue tool when product issue reports are enabled and Local MCP Privacy Mode is off.

What does Privacy Mode do?
Section titled “What does Privacy Mode do?”The green shield starts a fresh context for future Chat requests. Earlier chat stays visible locally but is not sent again. Web Search, ambient Script Workspace capture, attachments, project guidance, personalization, and issue reporting are unavailable while it is active. Only FileMaker items explicitly allowed in Metadata Explorer can be read.
Local MCP has a separate Privacy Mode setting for external clients. If its Metadata Explorer selection is empty, no live FileMaker data is shared.

What are Product issue reports?
Section titled “What are Product issue reports?”They are optional, limited diagnostic reports that help Geniewave identify product problems. Sensitive content is removed, the reports do not validate your licence or change FileMaker, and they do not replace a human Support Ticket. Turn them off in Settings > General > Product issue reports.
What is Calculation Quick AI?
Section titled “What is Calculation Quick AI?”Calculation Quick AI is the small native overlay in Data Viewer, Specify Calculation, and the Custom Function editor. It drafts one calculation expression from the current dialog and inserts it as editable text, after checking that the editor has not changed. It never clicks OK or executes the expression.
