Licensing and Activation
Genie is free. A paid plan unlocks more, and it starts with 21 days free. Your AI provider is separate: you bring your own key, and the provider bills usage.
The free version of Genie works without a licence key or expiry clock. It includes:
- chat, inspecting and explaining your file, and debugging help
- read-only queries and charts
- complete human-readable script steps and calculations to build by hand
- running an existing script after confirmation
- Calculation Quick AI
- Local MCP reads
No-key installs make no Genie licence network request and run no licence timer.
A paid plan unlocks:
- Preview, Copy, Create, and Apply for scripts
- executable data changes
- layout creation and editing
- QuickCode
- Auto apply
- external MCP coding and execution
- Workbench actions
- Klai integration
States
Section titled “States”| State | Product behavior |

| Free | Genie is ready to use for free; paid actions are unavailable. |
| Paid | Everything in Free, plus the paid features. |
| Grace | Cached paid access is kept for a while as validation recovers. |
| Expired, invalid, revoked, seat-limited, or unverified | Genie falls back to Free instead of locking the application. |
Manage Activation
Section titled “Manage Activation”Open Settings > General or Manage Activation to:
- enter and activate a paid key
- check whether your paid plan is active
- deactivate this device before moving a seat
- open the purchase page
The application, chat, history, settings, provider configuration, and Free features stay available when no paid plan is active.
Manage your subscription
Section titled “Manage your subscription”Billing is handled by Stripe. To change the number of users, switch plan, update your payment method, download invoices or cancel, choose Manage subscription in Settings > General. See Manage Your Subscription.
Validation behavior
Section titled “Validation behavior”- Cached paid state is shown immediately.
- Validation runs once per event: activation, manual Check now, expiry or grace boundaries, or the next scheduled validation window.
- Startup, focus, visibility changes, and ordinary tab opens do not poll the licence service.
- Network trouble does not erase the stored key or activation history.
Provider credentials are separate
Section titled “Provider credentials are separate”Your provider key authorizes model usage. Your Genie key unlocks the paid features. You can use the free version with a working provider, or have a paid plan while your provider configuration still needs repair.
