Install the package for your platform

Follow Download and installation and check requirements. macOS and Windows use separate packages, and Genie for Windows has its own feature set today; we are aiming for Windows to match the Mac version at the start of November 2026. The release notes list what each build includes.

Configure one provider

Open Settings → Models, choose a provider and model, and enter its key or local endpoint. Follow AI providers or local models. Your provider bills usage separately from Genie. On macOS, dictation needs Microphone permission.

On macOS you can use your Claude or ChatGPT plan instead of an API key: open Your own agent at the top of Settings → Models and set up Claude Code or Codex. Claude Code and Codex.

Ask one read-only question

Open your FileMaker file and Script Workspace, then click the Genie button in the toolbar to show the panel. Ask: “Explain the script ‘Save Customer’ and its error handling without changing anything.” Use a real script name. Check that the answer names the right file, script, and lines. This is free.

Make your first change

With a paid plan, ask Genie to create or edit a script in Script Workspace, or to edit the selected objects in Layout mode. Genie shows the change, then FileMaker asks you to confirm. The script does not need to be open. Check the result in FileMaker.

Auto apply in Settings skips the confirmation for each change. It is off by default. Calculation Quick AI inserts editable expression text; it never clicks OK or runs it.

If something does not match

If the target script has unsaved edits in Script Workspace, Genie asks you to save first. Save, then ask Genie to prepare the change again. Use first-response troubleshooting, provider troubleshooting, or activation help. Do not keep retrying a write whose outcome is uncertain.
