Quick Start: First Run Checklist
1. Install and open the right file
Section titled “1. Install and open the right file”- Download Genie and install it in FileMaker Pro.
- Open the FileMaker file you want to work on.
- Keep Script Workspace available for selection and reviewed script actions.
2. Enable local permissions
Section titled “2. Enable local permissions”On macOS, grant Microphone permission for dictation and Accessibility permission for Script Workspace capture and apply actions. On Windows, dictation is not available yet; follow the FileMaker and Windows permission prompts shown by the installed build. If capture or apply does not respond, see Clipboard and Focus.
3. Start with the free version
Section titled “3. Start with the free version”No activation key or trial is required for AGENT, read-only Query, Calculation AI, or complete human-readable implementation guidance. Use Manage Activation only when you want to add or recover Coding Access.
4. Configure one provider
Section titled “4. Configure one provider”Open Settings > Models and choose the single Coding provider/model route used by Genie:
- OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI / Grok, or Google for hosted accounts
- Custom / Local for an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, local server, or gateway
Add the provider key or token and test a custom endpoint before saving.
5. Ask in AGENT
Section titled “5. Ask in AGENT”Stay in AGENT and describe the outcome:
- ask for an explanation or investigation
- ask to create or edit a script
- ask a read-only data question and request a table or chart
- ask for a reviewed data change
- use Calculation AI from an open calculation editor
You no longer switch to ASK, CODE, QUERY, or DATA modes. AGENT chooses the capability from your request.
6. Give AGENT an exact target when needed
Section titled “6. Give AGENT an exact target when needed”- Refer to the current script or line in the prompt.
- Use Add Selection for explicit selected Script Workspace rows.
- Name another script exactly, or use Metadata Explorer when helpful.
- Attach supporting files; AGENT reads them on demand.
7. Know the review boundary
Section titled “7. Know the review boundary”- Questions and Query remain read-only.
- Free script help remains human-readable and manually implementable.
- Native script Preview/Copy/Create/Apply requires Coding Access.
- DATA Execute requires Coding Access, a sealed review card, and a fresh native confirmation.
- Running an existing script always requires a fresh native confirmation.
- Calculation AI inserts editable expression text and never clicks OK.
