API and Provider Limits
Troubleshoot errors from your AI provider, including OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI / Grok, Google, or a Custom / Local endpoint.
For provider selection strategy, see AI Providers.
Quota Warning / Provider Limit Reached
Section titled “Quota Warning / Provider Limit Reached”- Symptoms: You see an error such as Quota exceeded, insufficient quota, rate limit reached, or requests fail unexpectedly.
- Cause: The selected AI provider has hit a limit on your account (e.g., usage quota, temporary rate limit, or billing issue).
- Fix:
- Wait and retry: Temporary rate limits often clear after a short period.
- Check your account: Verify your AI provider account has a valid payment method and sufficient credits/quota.
- Refresh settings: In Genie Settings, confirm your API key is correct and valid.
- Reduce context: Try a shorter prompt or attach fewer script steps to stay within token limits.
- Switch providers: If possible, switch to a different provider (for example from OpenAI to xAI / Grok or Google) to continue working.
xAI / Grok notes
Section titled “xAI / Grok notes”xAI / Grokuses a separate xAI API key in Settings.- It is a hosted provider, not a
Custom / Localendpoint. - Web Search is not wired for xAI in this release; switch providers or turn Web Search off if Genie warns about that combination.
