System Specs

Use these requirements to run Genie reliably.

  • macOS
  • Latest FileMaker Pro release (2025 or newer) with Script Workspace available
  • Genie installed and loaded in the FileMaker environment
  • Recommended language baseline: FileMaker in English for best results (French and Spanish are supported)

The UI is the main interactive surface for ASK, CODE, QUERY, and DATA. Script Workspace remains the native surface for capture, preview context, and apply operations.

The UI is activation-gated.

  • Genie includes a 14-day trial.
  • Ongoing UI use requires a valid Genie activation key or an eligible grace state.
  • Provider API keys do not replace Genie activation.

See: Licensing and Activation

Genie uses bring-your-own-key provider access.

  • Configure at least one provider in Settings Guide.
  • Cloud providers require valid provider credentials.
  • Custom / Local requires an OpenAI-compatible endpoint plus a model id.

See: AI Providers

  • Internet access is required for activation, license refresh, and cloud providers.
  • Internet access is also required for the Web Search toggle in ASK and other internet-backed turns.
  • A local-only setup is possible when you use Custom / Local, but activation still follows Genie licensing rules.

Accessibility permission must be enabled for FileMaker and the Genie host so Genie can interact with Script Workspace.

If Accessibility is unavailable, these workflows can fail:

  • Add Selection
  • Add Scripts
  • Clear Context
  • Preview/apply flows that depend on Script Workspace focus
  • Native copy/paste/edit XML actions

See: Clipboard and Focus

  • Script Workspace must be available for capture and apply operations.
  • Your privilege set must allow the plugin access needed for metadata and SQL workflows.
  • Missing privilege can block metadata loading, QUERY, or DATA execution paths.
