System Specs
Platform
Section titled “Platform”- macOS 11 or newer, or 64-bit Windows supported by your FileMaker Pro installation
- FileMaker Pro 19 or newer with Script Workspace available
- Genie installed and loaded in the FileMaker environment
- English FileMaker UI recommended; Genie documentation and UI also support French and Spanish
Genie uses a native .fmplugin bundle on macOS and a signed 64-bit .fmx64 plugin on Windows. Install the package that matches the operating system; the two stable downloads are intentionally separate.
The macOS menu bar, Dock, Apple code-signing, and dmg_zip updater instructions are macOS-only. Windows uses its own signed plugin package and FileMaker’s Windows plug-in preferences.
Platform capability differences
Section titled “Platform capability differences”| Capability | macOS | Windows open beta |
|---|---|---|
| AGENT, read-only Query, Calculation AI, and complete human-readable guidance | Available | Available |
| Native script authoring, executable DATA, external Local MCP, and Workbench actions | Coding Access | Coding Access |
| LAYOUT | Coding Access | Not available yet |
| QuickCode | Coding Access | Not available yet |
| Composer dictation | Available with Microphone permission | Not available yet |
Menu bar, Dock controls, and in-app dmg_zip updater | Available | Not included |
ASK, CODE, QUERY, and DATA are AGENT capabilities rather than separate visible modes on both platforms.
Product access
Section titled “Product access”The free version of Genie does not require a licence key and does not expire. A valid paid key adds Coding Access for native script authoring, executable DATA, external Local MCP, and Workbench actions on both platforms. On macOS, Coding Access also adds LAYOUT and QuickCode.
Provider credentials do not replace a Genie licence, and a Genie licence does not include provider usage.
Provider
Section titled “Provider”Configure one supported provider/model route in Settings. Custom / Local requires an OpenAI-compatible endpoint and model ID. Genie is bring-your-own-key.
Network
Section titled “Network”- Cloud providers and optional web search require internet access.
- The free version of Genie with a local provider can operate without a Genie licence request.
- A stored paid key uses cached state and event-driven validation for Coding Access; ordinary startup, focus, and visibility changes do not poll continuously.
Permissions
Section titled “Permissions”- On macOS, Microphone permission enables dictation.
- On macOS, Accessibility permission enables Script Workspace capture and reviewed native script actions.
- On Windows, follow the FileMaker and Windows permission prompts shown by the installed Windows build.
- Missing FileMaker privileges can block metadata, read-only Query, DATA review, or execution.
FileMaker version-sensitive reads
Section titled “FileMaker version-sensitive reads”Exact field-definition and FMEngine reads are admitted only for inspected FileMaker builds. Unsupported or unknown point releases fail before private engine calls instead of guessing compatibility.
