System Specs
Use these requirements to run Genie reliably.
Platform requirements
Section titled “Platform requirements”- macOS
- Latest FileMaker Pro release (2025 or newer) with Script Workspace available
- Genie installed and loaded in the FileMaker environment
- Recommended language baseline: FileMaker in English for best results (French and Spanish are supported)
The UI is the main interactive surface for ASK, CODE, QUERY, and DATA. Script Workspace remains the native surface for capture, preview context, and apply operations.
Activation requirement
Section titled “Activation requirement”The UI is activation-gated.
- Genie includes a 14-day trial.
- Ongoing UI use requires a valid Genie activation key or an eligible grace state.
- Provider API keys do not replace Genie activation.
Provider requirement
Section titled “Provider requirement”Genie uses bring-your-own-key provider access.
- Configure at least one provider in Settings Guide.
- Cloud providers require valid provider credentials.
Custom / Localrequires an OpenAI-compatible endpoint plus a model id.

Network requirement
Section titled “Network requirement”- Internet access is required for activation, license refresh, and cloud providers.
- Internet access is also required for the Web Search toggle in ASK and other internet-backed turns.
- A local-only setup is possible when you use
Custom / Local, but activation still follows Genie licensing rules.
Accessibility and window control
Section titled “Accessibility and window control”Accessibility permission must be enabled for FileMaker and the Genie host so Genie can interact with Script Workspace.
If Accessibility is unavailable, these workflows can fail:
- Add Selection
- Add Scripts
- Clear Context
- Preview/apply flows that depend on Script Workspace focus
- Native copy/paste/edit XML actions

FileMaker-side prerequisites
Section titled “FileMaker-side prerequisites”- Script Workspace must be available for capture and apply operations.
- Your privilege set must allow the plugin access needed for metadata and SQL workflows.
- Missing privilege can block metadata loading, QUERY, or DATA execution paths.
